With the 5th annual Coach To Cure MD right around the corner on September 29, 2012, we wanted to tell you why you should make this the year you get in the game and show your support for one of the biggest national awareness campaigns in the Duchenne community. And we wanted you to hear it from families that have participated since the beginning... First up is the Poysky Family!

... Because we're serious about ending Duchenne.
The Poysky Family

Why are you on the team?

Coach to Cure MD was started 5 years ago by my brother Brad Todd. He had a dream to bring the cause of Duchenne to college coaches in order to save my son's life. I am on the team to support him and to raise critical funds for research. It is not common for a disease like Duchenne to have such a national stage to raise awareness. I am excited that we have the opportunity every year to make more people aware of Duchenne and get more people fighting for our boys.

I am also on the Coach to Cure MD team because I have worked on the national level with Coach to Cure and have seen the great generosity and compassionate spirit of the coaches. They are truly in coaching to change and influence the lives of young men. I have seen the outpouring of kindness from many college coaches and a great desire from them to change the outcome of Duchenne.

How does your family participate?
I have participated on the national level helping families get grassroots events planned at restaurants, high schools, local colleges, and in their homes and that has been fun. I also help organize families to go to games on game day and represent Coach to Cure MD.

But the BEST thing we do is a local big party in Houston for Coach to Cure MD where we set up at a local restaurant, watch all of the games, have great raffle baskets and invite all of our friends! We get to hang out all day, see our friends and family and raise money for Coach to Cure MD. It is a great, low-key fundraiser and our friends put it on their calendars every year.

Who is the special person you're fighting for?
This year is my son Joel's 10th birthday and we have been fighting Duchenne for 7 years. We are going to have a huge party on Coach to Cure day and get serious about Ending Duchenne! So we fight for Joel, but we also fight for every person with Duchenne. Together we can change the course of Duchenne!
