This Mother’s Day, thank someone for their role in the fight to end Duchenne.
If you’re reading this blog, chances are you know my wife, Pat Furlong. For 23 years now, Pat has been leading Parent Project Muscular Dystrophy (PPMD) and the fight to end Duchenne. Many of you have told me over the years that Pat has been a source of comfort, of hope for you and your family. But for my family, she is also an incredible wife, mother, and grandmother as well.
Like so many of the incredible women in this community, Pat has had to master the art of juggling. Balancing work and family is challenging enough. Adding Duchenne to the mix, though, takes superhuman abilities. That is Pat. And that is so many of the women in all of our lives.
This Mother’s Day, let’s thank the moms, grandmothers, sisters, aunts, nieces, care givers, doctors, scientists, advocates – the women in this community who love unconditionally and fight to end Duchenne tirelessly. Honor these women with your donation to PPMD today.
PPMD was founded by Pat and a small group of parents and grandparents, who believed that the only way to end Duchenne was to rally together and fight. And while there is still a tremendous amount of work left to do, the progress of the last two decades is incredible. PPMD has been a leader in this effort, altering the landscape so that a Duchenne diagnosis in 2017 is a much different experience than it was when our sons were diagnosed in 1984.
What Pat and the PPMD team has accomplished is incredible to me. But amongst all of those accomplishments, I am perhaps most moved by the advocates they have nurtured. PPMD provides programs, education, access, and experiences unlike any other rare disease organization. The result is a fiercely passionate and powerful community, led by families like yours. All of these programs and experiences, however would not be possible without your support. Let’s help PPMD raise $20,000 this Mother’s Day weekend. Support the PPMD community and honor the incredible women in your life at the same time.
I’m guessing that, like me, you are in awe of the stamina of the women that surround you. Pat and I have two amazing daughters. They are strong, brilliant women who have navigated through tragedy with unbelievable grace and compassion. Now I have a granddaughter. A new woman in my life who, at two, is already discovering the power of her voice. She will have plenty of role models on her journey to becoming her own woman.
Thank you for letting me reach out to you today. I just wanted to share with you all how immensely proud I am of Pat, my daughters, and so many of the women I have met in this community.
I hope you’ll join me in celebrating the women in our lives this Mother’s Day. Support a cause that means so much to the women in your life and support an organization that provides strength, knowledge, and hope.
P.S. Help PPMD raise $20,000 by the end of the week so that they can continue to create and nurture programs that help empower all of our families in the fight to end Duchenne. Give today in honor of Mother’s Day!
