Families of children with muscular dystrophy and other muscle disorders often experience a diagnostic odyssey that is too long and too emotionally difficult. PPMD, with support from The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), created the National Task Force for Early Identification of Childhood Neuromuscular Disorders to address the continued gap between the time when the first symptoms of muscle weakness are noticed and the time of a neuromuscular diagnosis.
In December, the Task Force products got a big boost. Our educational website for primary care providers and therapists, ChildMuscleWeakness.org was featured on Medscape. Medscape is an educational resource for healthcare providers that offers specialists, primary care physicians, and other health professionals the Web's most robust and integrated medical information and educational tools. You can read the information that was posted on Medscape here: Diagnostic Tool.
We’ve now had more than 2,000 visitors and more than 12,000 page views to ChildMuscleWeakness.org. This means that we are getting the word out about the need for early diagnosis, and sharing tools for how to find weakness early.
Your advocacy efforts are the reason the task force exists. Learn more about how you can get involved and add your voice to ours.
