I don't know if any of you have heard of this but I thought I would pass on... CureDuchenne (website: cureduchenne.org) is having an annual 2010 Climb to Cure Duchenne, Pick your Peak on June 19th and 20th.
I know that many of you will not be able to participate due to various reasons. And I know many of you may be particularily fond of just supporting PPMD, however our money all goes to the same place, right? To cure Duchenne's.
We currently have a team of about 18 people summitting our son Trey (DMD) up the Manitou Incline in Manitou, CO and expect that number to grow to about 50 people...to raise money and to bring awareness to this disease. I am asking for all of you to consider making a donation to us (considering we all need tax breaks) at www.firstgiving.com/climbteamcolorado and in the message box put a personal message for your son or grandson and let me know that you did it here as well. All of the money goes directly to CureDuchenne and my hands never ever touch it. Currently CureDuchenne has granted in the past few months:
$200,000 to UCLA Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy Research & Clinic
$250,000 to AVI BioPharma AVI-4658 Study 28
In turn my family will pay (out of our own pockets) to have bracelets made for your son (that has their name on it and favorite color) that we will wear up the mountain on the day and then mail them to you once the day is over and make a picture necklace with your sons picture on it that one of our climbers will wear up the mountain. In essence we will be SUMMITING YOUR CHILD UP THE MOUNTAIN WITH US. We are currently getting a page set up on facebook logging the entire journey for you to follow (pictures/thoughts/etc) and for each individual to document their feelings, etc as the process continues.
We have potential media coverage via a radio station and via Greg Moss at 9 News in Denver, Colorado since both are family friends of ours. I was just thinking during the media coverage how amazing would it be to say "yes we are taking Trey up the mountain ---but look at all these other boys we are bringing up the mountain with us"...
Please Consider this! Cori
