My name is Melissa and I'm Aunt and Nanny to the most amazing little guy in the world name Brogan Patrick Burns. He stole my heart the day he was born and he's had it ever since. He's 5 years old and was diagnosed with DMD at the end of 2007.
About my family:
There's me and my mom and dad (Mary Lynn and Earl), my older brother Clayten, his wife Michelle, and their two boys Brogan (5, dmd) and Liam (2)
Name(s) of child(ren)/individual(s) with Duchenne:
Melissa... My sister Monica also helps me with my son Josh, he is 9 and has DMD. Sisters like you and her are the only reason mom's like me can get up everyday and face it with a smile. Know that you are special, wonderful, and amazing and without you, your nephew would be missing a huge piece of love and happiness. Thank you!
Melissa, Thank you for the welcome! I was involved with the PP many years ago - really at it's beginning. My son will be 23 in May. God bless you and that sweet nephew. What precious pictures. I'll try to upload some of my children soon.
What a great aunt you are, and I can see what a darling boy little Brogan is. No wonder you are crazy about him. Both of you are lucky to have such a wonderful relationship. I wish you all well. Barbara
Hi Melissa, I live on Terry Drive in Arabi. Where does your nephew attend school. Who is his doctor (MD)? How did you family find out his diagnosis? My grandson was a toe walker, went to gastro doctor, liver enzymes high, then ran CK level (muscle enzyme) was 15,000!! Doctors in S. Florida diagnosed as Becker MD but went to Nationwide Children in Ohio (Jerry Mendell Clinic) and they changed to Duchene. My grandson is still walking, however, in school he has started to use a motorized chair. He tires easily. Would love to know more about your nephew and I would be glad to share about by grandson. Networking helps. Joyce
Hi and welcome. You caught my eye as I, too, have a son named Liam. He's was diagnosed with MD two months ago and he will be nine this November. DOes the gray cloud overhead ever go away when you get a diagnosis like this???
