Has anyone found accessible cabins or homes for vacation get-aways in North East US (PA, NJ, NY, MD...)? We need a bathroom with a roll in shower. We've found that Holiday Inn Express has the most open floor plan, as well as a microwave and fridge. That works well when traveling, but doesn't have a relaxing, cabin feeling. My sons like to hike around on trails and paths, but area has to be OK for wheelchairs.

Too bad you aren't nearer to Colorado, we have this wonderful place: http://www.wildernessonwheels.org/
Wish I had someplace closer to offer you! Good luck finding someplace!
Your sons sound amazing!

Fantastic. I found a 2 mile stretch of the Appalachian Trail back here that is accessible.
We lived in California until about 18 mo ago and we found some great spots in CA, AZ & NV.
Thanks for the info.

We vacation every year in Avon NC. Avon is on Hatteras Island in the Outer Banks. The house we rent, with other family members, for the week is semi-oceanfront. There is a beach wheelchair and a boardwalk to the beach. There is also a pool with lift to get in and out of the pool. There is an elevator, and a bedroom with an accessible bathroom with roll in shower. There are also other accessible homes on the outer banks. There are places out there. You sure do have to look hard to find them though. Good luck finding a place for your vaca.
what is the house in Avon? How can I find it? Thanks.

Thanks for the info.  We've moved back to California...Central Coast.  Our wheel chair accessible house is about 15 min to beach.  Weather is GREAT.

My wife and I completed this house in June of 2011. It is fully wheelchair accessible, with 36" entry into the elevator, both mastrs with roll-in showers, touch lamps, wheelchair lift into the pool and beach wheelchair. There's is an accessible beach access to a viewing landing and the house is on the other side of beach road. I'm a quad so we paid close attention to the details. FOR EXAMPLE, ALL THRESHOLDS TO DECKS AND OUTSIDE ARE RAMPED. Here's the link or you can search Shindigs at Joe Lamb Jr.'s website or on google.http://www.joelambjr.com/rental/house.html?ID=943
