I learned a new word today, osteopontin. I found this article so interesting, click here for abstract March Neurology Journal

The implications and limitations of this very small study are profound. It just goes to show how complicated this disease is. It seems that differences in other genes influence the progress of DMD and its response to treatment. My take away is if you were to stratify DMD patients by genotype potentially you could increase statistical power and sensitivity of clinical trials.   Perhaps if these findings are metered out in a larger study we can make some notable progress. I am no doctor but...

Any idea how one would get tested for "polymorphism rs28357094 in the gene promoter of SPP1 (osteopontin)"  - ie "Osteopontin genotype" ?
