We are looking into Max attending Head Start preschool next year. I was very impressed with our local school's program when I took a tour and Max loved it as well.
Because Head Start is a federal program, kids are required to eat the cafeteria's breakfast and lunch. The meals are WAY to high in calories and sodium, so I called the district's dietician. She said we can work out Max's dietary restrictions into his IEP and they will make custom-made breakfasts and lunches for Max to meet his dietary needs. She even said she is the one who goes shopping for special meals! :) When possible, they try to make the meals look like what the rest of the kids are eating so he won't feel left out.
She said she welcomes parental input into the meals, and even said they will work with me to create a whole calendar of meals for him. Does anyone know of a sample meal plan that will work for our boys? I'm going to e-mail Dr. Wong's nutritionist, but I wanted to know if you parents have found anything. TIA!
