Several years ago when I had a non-profit organization for muscular dystrophy awareness, we did a cookbook to raise money for it. We did pretty good.

This year for the Alumni Association I am running we are doing a Vegetarian Cookbook. It is going to the publisher this week. It will have about 600 recipes and a 3 ring binder hard back (padded) with lots of goodies inside. It is part of our fundraiser for the Association. I am working with one of the best publishers.

However, for some time I have wanted to do one for PPMD. I think we can do this together as a group. It will be very easy. We can enter our recipes onto an online recipe database. Anyone can go in and put their recipes for any of the categories- unlimited recipes. The cost of the cookbook is based on how many recipes are in the cookbook. PPMD is a non-profit and because of this, we have a 90 day credit (up to 90 days to pay the publisher back). That is not the hard part, because I'm more than sure we can seel the cookbooks with no problem. We can even get an ISBN# on it to sell in stores.

My cookbook for the Association will be out by this Thanksgiving. I am also involved with another cookbook for Aikdo Meadows, another non-profit (for domestic abuse) that I run with a good friend.that will be out this spring.

Before we get started on this, I like to do a quick survey to see how many people would like to be part of this. Be part of a team to make sure this does succeed. We can begin this process right away or we can begin after the holidays.

Would you like to join me? We would need a Chariperson and a few on the committee. Let me knwo what you think!

Thanks!
Dee

Actually Danielle, i saw that at your group and thought that can be something we can also implement. I think we can maybe do a general cookbook and still implement that. Almost like a vegetarian cookbook but also has a vegan diet section too. Of course, that definitely you be on the committee!!!!

Yay! I was hoping we could do something like this! When I started the Recipe ideas group I was thinking about recipes more geared to low fat, low sodium and low sugar for our boys to stay healthy. Would that be premise of the book or would it be a general cookbook? Let me know what I can do to help.
Thanks for getting the ball rolling!

Would it be better for me to join the DMD recipes group to be part of the team?

I don't have skype set up on my computer, but would be willing to if we want to go that route. I would need to get a camera and mike and don't want to spend the money if I am not going to use it.

Susan...I can change it with no problem. I was thinking of the football fans when I came up with that time. I can do it at a later time if it is ok with everyone else!
I thought this important to share.
Did you know that in Scotland, Action Duchenne has recently created a cookbook fundraiser called The Caledonian Kitchen. The ISBN is: 978-978-0-956189 but I couldn't find it on Amazon. I ordered it through the website below -- they converted my dollars for me. Funds go for research for a cure for DMD.

Here's the website:
http://www.thecaledoniankitchen.co.uk
If you search on-line you'll get more related stories.

I treasure this cookbook. The layout is beautiful.

The Table of Contents is below:

Foreword
A Message from Action Duchenne
Acknowledgements

Then the recipe sections (3):

Celebrities (they included recipes from 40 prominent figures)
Restaurants (34 award winning chefs from Scottish restaurants)
Supporters (50 Scots across the country)
Starts, Soups & Salads
Main Dishes
Desserts & Baking
Sponsors (ads in color from anything from restaurants, breweries, and other businesses)
Notes (just blank lined pages for what you might want to jot down)

What I like about what they've done is provided recipes not only from each other but also from Celebrities and Restaurants. I think that would make people really want to own this book. We could include in the Celebrities category, some of the House and Senate (Congress members) we advocate to -- I think all would gladly provide a recipe -- maybe even President Obama. That would get more attention and probably some free publicitiy. Britain's Prime Minister Gordon Brown provided a recipe for Steak Pie - yum! A small photograph and their signature is on the page with the recipe.

A person active with The Caledonian Kitchen cookbook project is veteran actress Eileen McCallum who, like me, has two grandsons with DMD.

They've kind of paved the way.
thank you Gail for sharing...I have already talked to the Author of this cookbook an dhe has already provided me alot of info in his priavate email to help us with our cookbook. I'm glad to hear it is now on Amazon.com too. I plan to order one myself. I know the cookbook made out there is for the organization out there. This one is for the PPMD-USa. even if it is for the one main thing...to find a cure for DMD. But thanks again for sharing. Safe hugz, Dee

I haven't had much time to check out the PPMD forum lately but we just did a cookbook thru Morris Press and we're from a small town in Wisconsin so we ordered 400 cookbooks and have 220 recipes from family & friends. Our cookbook title is "Reciipes from the Heart for PPMD". All proceeds will go to PPMD and it says so in the intro pages. We also have a page for info about PPMD and about my son. We're selling them for $10 or $12 + $3 shipping for mail orders. We are projecting $5.00 profit for each book sold at $10. We had 80 sold before we got the books and they're selling pretty well. They turned out very nice. We got the discount doing typensave.com and I entered all the recipes.
well I was just told by PPMD to put a hold on the cookbook because of the economy right now and rather we wait till next year. As disappointed I am , I do understand what she was telling me...made perfest sense but I still feel very sad about it.

However, there is another member here who did a cookbook recently that is she trying to sell that they did for PPMD and maybe what we can do is help her raise the funds through the cookbook she did for PPMD. We can at least support that for now. How about it? Let's do that!!!

Safe hugz,
Dee
How many do you have left now? Advise please and do you have a photo or something of it for us to see? on Ebay or somewhere online. I would be interested in getting one from you. Safe hugz, Dee

If anyone is keeping a list, I would be interested in participating and buying if a book gets underway down the road! Sadly, my organizational skills are nil, but please keep me in the loop. :)
I am hoping to upload the "acknowledgement" pages (4) from the cookbook with this email so you can see what that part looks like. I will get a photo of the actual cookbook this weekend and add that to this discussion. Thanks for your interest!! ~Vicky
