Several years ago when I had a non-profit organization for muscular dystrophy awareness, we did a cookbook to raise money for it. We did pretty good.

This year for the Alumni Association I am running we are doing a Vegetarian Cookbook. It is going to the publisher this week. It will have about 600 recipes and a 3 ring binder hard back (padded) with lots of goodies inside. It is part of our fundraiser for the Association. I am working with one of the best publishers.

However, for some time I have wanted to do one for PPMD. I think we can do this together as a group. It will be very easy. We can enter our recipes onto an online recipe database. Anyone can go in and put their recipes for any of the categories- unlimited recipes. The cost of the cookbook is based on how many recipes are in the cookbook. PPMD is a non-profit and because of this, we have a 90 day credit (up to 90 days to pay the publisher back). That is not the hard part, because I'm more than sure we can seel the cookbooks with no problem. We can even get an ISBN# on it to sell in stores.

My cookbook for the Association will be out by this Thanksgiving. I am also involved with another cookbook for Aikdo Meadows, another non-profit (for domestic abuse) that I run with a good friend.that will be out this spring.

Before we get started on this, I like to do a quick survey to see how many people would like to be part of this. Be part of a team to make sure this does succeed. We can begin this process right away or we can begin after the holidays.

Would you like to join me? We would need a Chariperson and a few on the committee. Let me knwo what you think!

Thanks!
Dee

This is too weird -- I am just finishing a cookbook up for our church's women's ministry fundraiser. I was thinking the same thing, but I couldn't figure out the logistics in my own little brain. It would be so much bigger that the one for my small church. I would be willing to help.

Susan
Susan...who is your publisher for your cookbook? just curious.
We are using CPI - Cookbook Publishers. I have a friend it used this same publisher several times for her husbands fishing club and was very happy with them.

Susan
It must be right to do! I literally (just 20 min ago) was thinking that this would be a good idea as I was looking at a cookbook that my old work did a while back.....I'm in!

Well I tried to call Ryan or Kim to discuss and right now I"m waiting for a call back. Otherwise I'm ready to get an account started. I'm looking into the CPI that Susan worked with to see if it is better or any different then Morris.
I took a quick look at Morris and the prices seem pretty comparable. They both give a 25 cent discount for typing it in yourself. That's what we are doing and it is working great.

Susan
Yeah...i was just looking over CPI...the one great thing about it, their prices are cheaper per book. However, the quality didn't look as professional to me. And they charge alot more for photos and other things too. LOL I mean $10 per photograph? wow! maybe we can get others to look at both and see what they might see that maybe we are missing...too. LOL know what I mean? but they both have the same payment terms and alot of other similar costs. Their personal pages didn't look to appealing to me. maybe i need to order the kit and actually see it in my hand. I'll do that.
There is a group on here called DMD recipe ideas - we have all been talking about doing exactly the same thing but have been struggling with the logistics of how to put the cookbook in action - perhaps if we all work together we can come up with a plan, and get this ball rolling :)

And so yes Dee, I would love to be involved and will even put your discussion up on the Recipes group page to get everyone geared up again :)
This sounds like a great idea. I would like to help too. Thanks. Kim

I saw that Julie and I saw it was a year old and then didn't see or read any more. So I thought maybe someone needs to "speak" up. What we should do is put a group together (as a committee) who has experience with cookbooks and from there branch out to market for the recipes. Between the two companies that Susan I was talking about, both allow us (anyone) to put recipes in through an online recipe database and from there they can download it when all done and create the book from there. We just have to decide on a cover, how many recipes we want (a goal), name of cookbook, personal pages and design.

When we did the cookbook back in the early 2000, most of our personal pages were stories of the kids with their picture. I suggest we do that as well as we put in pages of about DMD and about PPMD and their various Annual Fundraisings.

Is anyone on SKYPE??? IS it possible for us all to meet on skype for a video conference?

Advise please.

I'm taking this discussion over to the DMD RECIPES group and we can continue the discussions there if you like. Dee
