Hello, I really need some advice. My son, Lucas, is 10 and mostly ambulatory. He broke his Tibia this past weekend (at his own birthday party :) ) and has a non weight bearing cast. He does have a wheel chair but I'm looking for some advice on what anyone has used to keep the other leg moving and active such as a walker. He will be going to PT 3 times a week but just wondering if anyone has been through this and if anyone might have any tips or ideas that have worked well. I would greatly appreciate any advice. Thanks very much!
My 11 yr old broke his tibia around the middle of January. He was in a long leg splint for the first week, followed by a short fiberglass cast for two weeks. After that he moved onto a walking boot, weight bearing as tolerated. I think we are a little over three weeks with it. While he was non weight bearing we were able to stretch the other leg normally and did a few other exercises recommended by the pt. We also helped him stand on the good leg several times a day with us supporting him, usually when he moving from from one place to another. Once he was weight bearing he moved onto a walker and has been slowly making progress with it.
