My son didn't have Adaptive PE until Middle School but he then he did have it in place of regular PE. He did have to be evaluated by the Adaptive PE specialist and he had to have his IEP in place before they would request the evaluation. Jon wasn't diagnosed until the summer between 3rd and 4th grade. Those last two years in elementary school, the PE specialist was more than cooperative about letting him participate within his abilities. She was one of the teachers that came to us with suspicions that something was wrong, she was actually aware of a problem before we were.
