Hi Lisa- Here is the wiki article on non-sense mutations known as a stop coden. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nonsense_mutation
It's a mutation in a particular exon that causes the body not to produce dystrophin. This mutation occurs in approximately 10-15% of the Duchenne patients. Supplements include calcium, vitamin d, vitamin b12, vitamin c, Juven. His scripts include correg, lisinapril, metformin, deflazacort.
Hi Lisa - My son has stop coden mutation. He has been on steriods since he was 5. He wears leg braces at night to stretch is ankle tendons. He has inserts in his shoes to keep his ankles straight. He takes additional supplements as well as Juven. I can't attribute his walking at 16 to any particular thing. Could be his mutation, could be the variety of supplements and steriods. Don't know for sure. We just know that our combination of stuff works for our son. Let me know if you have any additional questions, we can chat privately.
