It was good to meet you at MDA Camp last week. When Austin got home he went to his room and started crying because he missed his counselor and his room mates at camp. I guess I am glad that he had so much fun that he cried when it was all over. He is already talking about next year. Do you have to get a team up for the Stride and Ride? What exactly is the Stride and Ride?
Hi Kristi, How are things going? How are they doing on improving Vanderbilt? How is your son doing? Austin is still doing fairly well. He still walks and only needs assistance when he has to walk very long distances.
Hi Kristi: Wow, you are a busy mom - and a great one too! Glad to see you here as well as FB :) Congrats again on your dog. I was about to tell you my friend, Patty, just got a cutie from Canine Campanions too (she posted right below me!!!). Nicholas would love a dog. I have to think that one over for a while. I'll work on the van first - then the dog. Talk to you soon!
I was thinking maybe Monday afternoon? We are going to be in Jackson that night anyway for a birthday party. I had totally forgotten about that McDonalds (I'm guessing you mean the one on Highland?) which would be WAAAYYYY better than the dreaded CEC in my book! LOL. What time are you available? Our party is at 7 I think, so anytime before that would be great. I sent you my cell number in the email, but in case it doesn't ever show up, it's 865-292-8746. Or you can email at email@example.com. Thanks so much for meeting us...I'm really looking forward to it!
Hi Kristi! Yes! I would LOVE to get together. We are actually coming to Lexington/Jackson for Christmas. We'll get in next Sunday and be there all week. Are you guys going to be in town over the holidays? Maybe we (all of us from the Jackson area) should get our boys together next week for a holiday lunch or something? Chuck E Cheese maybe so they could play and we moms could talk? Might be fun! Hope you all had a wonderful weekend and ready for the week ahead. Let me know if you're around or would be interested in getting the kids together. Hugs!
Thanks for the welcome Kristi. And I thank you for the kind comments, but it seems we need more people like YOU around. What a wonderful profile you present. I look forward to getting to know more people on this site. Thanks again for the warm welcome. Be good to you.
They actually live in Pinson which is in Madison county. Brandon is 13 years old and was diagnosed in the 2nd grade. Brandon is wheelchair dependant and he has been at TCA since kindergarten. Hopefully you and my sister Lisa can get together she really needs to talk with another mom that is feeling what she feels. Private message me and I will give you my phone number.
The drive takes about 8 hours. Please keep me up to date on the improvements that Vandy is making. Hopefully in the near future we can start coming to Vandy for our care. At this time, since Vandy is still in the development stages we will probably continue to take Austin to Cinci. Once Vandy does get it like Cinci it will be wonderful. Because instead of 8 hours it would only be about 3 and a half hours.
How was your trip to Vandy? Our trip went well at Cinci. Austin is still doing well. He has not progessed. The cardiologist said his heart is not showing any damage. His strength is the same.
No Justin has never seen a cardiologist and does not receive any service's.He does not wear AFO's to tell the truth I don't even know what they are they have never said anything about them. He is not on steroids they asked us if we wanted to put him on them but we were afraid of the side effects. He has not went to camp yet he is very bashful it takes him a long time to come around to people he does not know. What kind of test do they do at vandy.
Thanks for the reply on using a wheelchair I work in Jackson at P&G. I worked with a guy named Kenneth Powell ( KP ) that left there to go to nursing school you wouldn't happen to be married to him would you? We use the Memphis clinic but have been thinking about moving Justin to vandy are you guys pleased with the care there? Sometimes I think it is a waste of time in Memphis because all they do is track his progress thats it we have been going there for 5 yrs now and have only seen a PT one time. All the Dr. says is looking good see you in 3 months any question's I have asked about PT he says I think he is doing ok I dont think he needs to. Just let me know how you feel about Vandy.
When you go for your appointments do you get to see all of the doctors associated with his care that day? We are seriously thinking about trying Vanderbilt. Thanks for all of your help. What tests do they usually do?
Your comments have helped. Please let me know how your next visit goes. We are suppose to go back to Cincinnati on Nov 5th. Maybe our families can meet some time. We only live an hour and a half away from each other.
My family lives in Ashland, MS. We live about an hour an a half from Jackson, TN. I saw on one of your posts that you go to Vanderbilt hospital. Have you been happy with the level of care there? We go to see Dr. Wong in Cincinnati for Austin's care. It takes us about 8 hours to get there. We love Dr. Wong, but if we could get the same level of care at Vanderbilt that we do there it would be something to look into.
