There is a very excitement news on StemCell Theraphy being currently done in Mumbai ( Bombay , India )
I just got back from Bombay & I meet the DMD Boy age 24 who under went Stem Cell treatment in August 2009 and he is doing very well.

I would like to ask someone who is well connected to stem cell research to give us all some update on stem cell.

Thanks

It sure is abit uplifting to know this stem cell technology is developing.might hold some hope for our boys soon. Please lets keep the info flowing on the developments on this front. We,am sure, would also welcome any unbiased info on the issue from the medical community. On a different approach,i understand Glaxosmithkline is now taking part in a research exercise to do with Exxon-skipping in DMD,which also seems to be promising, albeit a couple of years down the road.

from what I have spoken with several doctors there could be a problem because the body at the time to receive something that it has not been in the body maybe it would attack the thing that is going into the body and other thing that I have hear is the incompatibility is this true. But on the other side if the stem cells are what the stem cells doctor say they are they could regenerate muscle, and bone tissue and several parts of the body. The problem is that for how much time the cells would be alive in the body to accoplish this.

I suggest we wait for couple of months as the boys who underwent this theraphy will have more concrete data to share with us. I am already in touch with one of the parents. i will keep posting new information as I receive.
I and like all DMD parents , I am very confident of this theraphy and will be one of many to change the lives of our kid.
Pray to God, that this disease comes to an end.

I understand some doctors inject the cells in the spine, while others inject the vein. What is the difference between the two techniques. The one in the spine sounds a bit scary, and i understand it also carries some bit of risk like infections to the spine and meningitis.I would like to take my son for the stem cell therapy too. What i would hope for is anecdotal evidence from parents who have done it for their kids so i can have the faith to go thro with it.Let us hear what the boy's parents have to say on this in future .

The stem cell treatment in Bombay ( India ), is being done by Dr. Alok Sharma.
He is using patients bone marrow and extracting stem cell and re-injecting them in the spine. I have see the boy who underwent the theraphy & was doing excellent after 6 months. He is taking another shot on Jan 21st 2010. The results are extremely encouraging and I hope this might be a very good theraphy till something better comes out.
More data will be available from the parents within next few months. I hope to take my son for the same sometime in next 6 months.
