NPR recently highlighted how the ABLE program may benefit Americans living with disabilities and helped provide further context for this quickly evolving resource. Click here to listen to this week's segment.
PPMD has long been involved in efforts to see the dream of ABLE accounts become a reality – and while not the full solution to autonomy for adults with Duchenne – it is a bold and extraordinary first step into policies that empower adults with disabilities (and those who love them) to save for their futures. PPMD’s Annie Kennedy serves as our community’s representative to the national coalition (the ABLE Resource Center) working on federal implementation of the state ABLE programs and late in 2015 PPMD submitted a reponse to the IRS proposed rule related to ABLE accounts as to how the proposal could be further enhanced to benefit our community. More background about the ABLE program can be found here.
