People never fail to surprise us with the creative ideas they come up with to fundraise. We’ve compiled a pretty lengthy list of things that folks have done in the past, but there are always new ingenious ideas that crop up. We hope some of these will inspire you as you work toward your fundraising minimum and (possibly) beyond it, all in the name of ending Duchenne.
Virtual Race – Don’t have time to run an organized race in your area? Can’t make it to one of the marathons on our calendar? Sign up for the Virtual Run For Our Sons 5K, go for a run (any route you choose – you’re your own race director!) and your die cast black nickel finisher’s medal will be sent right to your door! A great way to be a part of the team from wherever you are. Learn how this creative idea came to be.
Tupperware – Who doesn’t love the convenience and organization that Tupperware can bring to their kitchen? And when a percentage of the proceeds of each sale are donated to PPMD, that makes the product even better. Companies such as Tupperware, Scentsy and others will work with individuals to set up charity-specific pages and donate a percentage of sales to that organization. Shopping for a good cause? Jeans For Genes – What would people pay to wear their comfy jeans to work for a day? Ask your HR department to help you find out! Ask for donations from your co-workers in exchange for a super-casual wardrobe day.
Paws For a Cure – Charity car washes are everywhere these days, but charity dog washes? Much harder to find. Set up a pooch-washing operation and charge people a small fee for a little pampering for Fido. The costs for you are minimal – soap, buckets and access to plenty of water. And a change of dry clothes for yourself – doggies love a good shake-off after a bath!
Cast For the Cure – Is there a lake, pond, river, inlet, bay or other fish-able body of water in your community? Set up a fishing competition, charge an entrance fee, and let ‘em battle it out for bragging rights. Offer prizes for the biggest catch, most fish caught, etc.
Other events such as bake sales, lemonade stands, golf tournaments ... are always popular choices that we’ve seen have huge successes. We welcome any and all creative ideas and will do whatever we can to help you make them successful. When your event wins, the Duchenne community wins.
