The Race to End Duchenne .1K is the perfect school event to celebrate Duchenne Action Month! About the length of a football field, a .1K is the race anyone can do! It requires no training and is an easy race to plan. Plus, the whole thing is over in less than 15 minutes!
Before summer break, contact the administration at your child’s school and ask if they’ll work with you to plan a Race to End Duchenne .1K for September. Because it is such a short distance, kids can compete in the gym, through the cafeteria, around the playground, in the classroom, or on the school lawn – pretty much anywhere you can think of!
Finding a teacher or administrator to be your point person for the event is key – they’ll keep the momentum going and help you with the details. Ask your child’s teacher, guidance counselor, or another educator who you know will help get things done!
In addition to being a really fun event for kids of all ages, the Race to End Duchenne .1K offers lots of opportunities for you and your family to educate the student body about life with Duchenne. We’ll provide age-appropriate lesson plans and "Duchenne Facts of the Day" to be used in class the week leading up to the race.
PPMD will have an online store where you can order Race to End Duchenne .1K supplies, including t-shirts, race bibs, wristbands, balloons, Finisher stickers, and much more. We can also set up an event webpage for fundraising, and supply donation envelopes to collect cash and check donations.
Fill out our interest survey to get started planning your event! The PPMD staff is on hand to help you make Duchenne Action Month your school’s favorite new tradition!
On your mark, get set, GO!
