I don't know if any of you have heard of this but I thought I would pass on... CureDuchenne (website: cureduchenne.org) is having an annual 2010 Climb to Cure Duchenne, Pick your Peak on June 19th and 20th.

I know that many of you will not be able to participate due to various reasons. And I know many of you may be particularily fond of just supporting PPMD, however our money all goes to the same place, right? To cure Duchenne's.

We currently have a team of about 18 people summitting our son Trey (DMD) up the Manitou Incline in Manitou, CO and expect that number to grow to about 50 people...to raise money and to bring awareness to this disease. I am asking for all of you to consider making a donation to us (considering we all need tax breaks) at www.firstgiving.com/climbteamcolorado and in the message box put a personal message for your son or grandson and let me know that you did it here as well. All of the money goes directly to CureDuchenne and my hands never ever touch it. Currently CureDuchenne has granted in the past few months:

$200,000 to UCLA Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy Research & Clinic

$250,000 to AVI BioPharma AVI-4658 Study 28

In turn my family will pay (out of our own pockets) to have bracelets made for your son (that has their name on it and favorite color) that we will wear up the mountain on the day and then mail them to you once the day is over and make a picture necklace with your sons picture on it that one of our climbers will wear up the mountain. In essence we will be SUMMITING YOUR CHILD UP THE MOUNTAIN WITH US. We are currently getting a page set up on facebook logging the entire journey for you to follow (pictures/thoughts/etc) and for each individual to document their feelings, etc as the process continues.

We have potential media coverage via a radio station and via Greg Moss at 9 News in Denver, Colorado since both are family friends of ours. I was just thinking during the media coverage how amazing would it be to say "yes we are taking Trey up the mountain ---but look at all these other boys we are bringing up the mountain with us"...

Please Consider this! Cori

Jen I don't think that they take out that much for the website, if I am correct it is alot like paypal...every 100 they take $3.50...and know that can add up, but for me personally, I have found the online thing to be easy because I don't have to worry about alot of extra checks/cash running around our crazy =) household...I'm glad you have gotten family to join in the cause, and remember $30 is $30 and we are pretty far still away from the event... here I have some people donating, getting the word out, and I have a huge team, which I told all have to pay at least $15 to be a part of it, and I haven't seen a penny from almost all of them...and then secondarily to that Seth's family has seen the webpage and hasn't done a thing....be patient, I'll say some prayers for you, I think we are just a ways out regarding the donation thing that it's still a little early for everyone to feel the urgency of getting us their funds right away...do you Facebook? I started a group called the Manitou Incline Cure Crew/Cure Trey if you are on there search for us and request it, I can add you, you can look at the page and then maybe copy the idea for your sons? It has really really REALLY helped me get the word out and I posted the firstgiving.com/climbteamcolorado to my facebook and that helped some also just get the word out...maybe that is a thought...I have also had alot of people say they will donate when they get their taxes back and stuff...patience patience patience and you'll have prayers from us coming your way =)...Also did you hear about the banners? That I think might be a huge selling point for you...if you haven't heard about them you let me know and I will pass on what Sean and I talked about the other day.

we have had 4 family member offer to join our team, and a friend of austins with his mom and dad, oh and a whopping 30 dollar donation so far..one thing i dont like is that the online donation have a certain percent taken out to pay the website, not cure duchenne, im trying to get folks to donate directly to me by check instead. we're gonna do it! keep me posted, thats great about your cousin, im asking everyone to ask their friends too!

Remember that the GOAL is $5000...every single penny counts...even if you get $500 that is better then absolutely nothing, and if you are anything like us, it helps to feel like we are actually helping to find a cure...and I have been amazed, sent out a few emails...got nothing really back from those...not yet anyways, but then my mother found my cousin Jaymie's email address, I sent it over to him, and WHAM, he sent it to all of the people he knows, who are stating that 'if Jaymie supports this cause, they will support it too', and he is a US Ambassador...remember as all of us do...Pray and pray hard about it...I have been amazed at the amount of people willing to 'go up to bat' for us... I'll pray for your team...and remember something is better then nothing! See ya on the mountaintop in June!

You should totally do it, and if you are doubting yourself and getting a crew together you should try and get ahold of Sean Marshall...talked to him the other day and let me tell you he lit a fire in my soul =) which I needed...was planning on doing it and then once I talked to him, I was so motivated to get going! Don't hesitate to contact him for more info and talk to him about it...the whole crew at CureDuchenne are amazing people.
