COACH TO CURE MD
Here's the thing. Long ago, my husband played football for Notre Dame. My boys, Chris and Patrick loved that golden dome. They had hopes of attending Notre Dame. They watched every game. I watched them and while they were cheering for Notre Dame, I was praying that they would be able to walk the length of the football field. Just once.
Duchenne has changed. We stand at the forefront of promising clinical trials. We have been instrumental in making this happen. By working together, we have invested in academic research, connected with industry, and inspired our representatives in Congress. We are changing the landscape of Duchenne.
And now we have another wonderful opportunity to roll up our sleeves and work together as a community…COACH TO CURE MD (www.coachtocuremd.org). This one-day national event on October 25, 2008, is designed to raise awareness about Duchenne and raise money for research. The American Football Coaches Association is partnering with us and every head football coach from participating schools will be wearing a patch with the Coach to Cure MD logo. They will highlight AFCA's efforts to fight muscular dystrophy. October 25, 2008 – This is OUR son's day. This is our day to share our fight with the nation. This is our day to show the AFCA how much we support them, what they are doing for us, and how thankful we are to have their help.
We have learned that when we work as a team, we get things done and the results are amazing. And we make progress. It is pretty clear to me that the Duchenne community can change the world – because we already have.
