How we are doing.

Wow, it has been forever since I connected with families on PPMD. Life has been crazy busy for our family. Wyatt started Kindergarten year, which has been a huge adjustment. We just got back from Cincinnati and all his well. HIs motor skills are stable and heart is great. Blessings!

Our growing family

We have really been busy around our house in the last several months.

Our daughter, Leigha, 18, started college,

Anthony turned 16 and loves video games

Wyatt turns 4

This morning at 1:40am my sweet baby Wyatt turned 4. I can't believe I'm even looking at that number 4. 4 is a big kid, what happened to my "baby!" I'm honored and blessed to call myself Wyatt's mom. He is brave, strong, and giving. This kid has made me a better person, there is no doubt in my mind. I am so lucky to know this child, to have this child a part of my life. Carter

On Feb. 19, 2011 we welcomed our beautiful baby, Carter Bennett Staffenhagen. He was 2 weeks early, but weighed 8 lbs 14 oz, and was 21 inches long. He's amazing. We are so lucky to have this baby. PGD/IVF is a hard long process, but every time I look at him, I wouldn't change a thing. The two infant pictures on our page are of baby Carter.

I love Wyatt

Wyatt has completely changed my life. I'm sure most of you would agree, how different our lives are with DMD apart of them. But you know what? Wyatt has made me a better person. Made my children more understanding. I'm not sure how to explain it, but I know you understand. When we get busy in our lives, days pass quickly. Busy Busy Busy

We have been so busy around our house. I'm so glad that Fall is in full swing, maybe things will slow down a bit, I doubt it. We just made a trip to Cincinnati Children's. Great visit (more on that later). Wyatt is doing amazing. Walking, jumping, running, talking a mile a minute. He's a pure joy! He's a mama's boy, which is so nice. (The others forget I exist once they eat solid food, hahaha)

Run for Our Sons Seattle

Run for Our Sons Seattle was a huge success. We met so many people along the way who wanted to know what Duchenne was. And everyone was so supportive. All the Wyatt Warriors finished. Our oldest member, Wyatt's grandpa (59), completed the full marathon in 3 hours 32 minutes which was 6th for his age group. That time qualified him for the Boston Marathon.

May 2010

We have been a very busy family over the last few months. School is winding down, and we are really looking forward to a relaxing summer.

We've spend the last 5 months or so getting ready for the Seattle Rock and Roll Marathon and 1/2 Marathon. We have 8 members of Team Wyatt to raise money for Run for Our Sons. We have about 3 weeks left to raise money and so far our total is just over $6300.

I can't wait to share pictures with all my PPMD friends when the race…

Wyatt turns 2.

I had a great day with my sweet Wyatt. Today he turned 2. We just spent time together. We didn't go anywhere fancy or do anything spectacular, we just "talked". I love listening to him say new words and try new things. We did get some very special Mommy, Daddy and Wyatt time at a local resturant, without his siblings. They brought him balloons (his new favorite word) and sang the goofy birthday song. The ice cream sundae was as big as his head. Thanks Wyatt for an amazing day, I love you!

Reflecting

One year ago today (Jan 9,2009) was the day that my world seemed to stop, I was punched in the stomach and my head was spinning. I was being told that there was no HOPE for my sweet baby boy! Diagnosis Day (a day I will never forget).

Over the last year, I've learned 2 things.

One thing I've learned is when someone, a doctor, someone who is supposed to help people, says to you, "I'm sorry there is nothing we can do, all you can do is take him home and love him." DON'T TAKE… Continue

Cincinnati.....again

We just got back from another visit to CCHMC. We learn so much every time that we go. Wyatt had a rough day the first day. He was pretty much asleep all day (because of sedation), so when it was time for us to sleep, he was wide awake. He had an MRI and lots of blood work done. He's doing so well. All the doctors, nurses and staff members we talked to were so glad to see that he is finally growing. All his tests came back normal. We are waiting on some additional blood work (not related to DMD)… Continue

Wyatt is finally walking

Wyatt is now 20 months old and the weekly PT is finally paying off. He's taking steps all on his own! I kept hearing that he'll walk don't worry, but until you see your sweet miracle walk with your own 2 eyes, it's not quite real.

The Evergreen State Fair in Monroe Washington

Seattle Rock and Roll 1/2 Marathon

On June 27th, Wyatt's dad, Tom and grandpa Bill ran the Seattle Rock and Roll 1/2 Marathon to raise money for PPMD. Our family really had a great time at this event. Not only was the weather amazing, but we also got to meet other people who are as passionate as we are about raising research money to fight Duchenne.

Bill ran the race in about 1 hour 40 minutes, Tom was a little slower running about 2 hours 15 minutes.

Our Trip To Cincinnati

May 26th, 2009.

We were at the hosptial for a long time (noon to about 530)

We had appts with a nutritionalist, a physical therapist and the neurologist, Dr, Wong.

Got some general information about nutrition and some PT he can start now. The PT lady was more concerned about him getting PT for his walking delay, not for the issues associated with DMD. She said his motion is great, so the DMD not a factor yet. Great news. She said we should get him… Continue
