Hi Tracey! We've had a pretty good experience with Cole's school so far, but he did have a really difficult time in kindergarten. He has alot of problems with anxiety and some OCD type issues. Academically he did fine, but had problems with my leaving in the morning, any differences in the routine, and he worried alot over things like making sure his lunchbox was where he could see it so he didn't forget it at lunch. He had an incredible teacher who was so understanding and really worked with him. He had a schedule book that really seemed to help and over his Christmas break that year we started him on a low dose of zoloft. That seemed to take the edge off his anxiety and make things a little easier. The last half of kindergarten was better than the first and this year has been a complete turnaround. I don't know if it's his age, the fact that it's his second year in the building, or a combination of everything but it's been such a nice change. So our experience with the school has been positive to this point but next year he'll move to another building for 2nd and 3rd grade with a whole new principal and staff, so I'm getting pretty nervous about that. I know of so many people who've had negative experiences with their sons schools and I feel like we've been lucky so far, I just hope it continues.
Cole takes steroids too, but he takes a daily dose of deflazacort. He's been taking them now for a little over two years.
Hi Tracey! I'm glad to hear Luke is doing well. Cole is doing really well right now also. He's in first grade this year and has been having a pretty good year. I was nervous when school started that we would see some decline from how he got around last year, but that hasn't been the case so I'm thankful for that.
When was Luke diagnosed? Cole was diagnosed in May 05' , shortly before he turned 5 . I'm a stay at home mom also, my younger son Chase just turned three in October. Thanks for contacting me, it's nice to get to know others with boys the same age!
