no problem, life gets busy... how is your brother doing? Has he started using some type of ventilatory support?

Hi Samantha,
I would second what greg said but I would also add that your brother wouldm't necessarily need to be trached. There are forms of non-invasive ventillation that might work for him. Either day or night, many young men use a sip and puff system during the day (does not affect their ability to speak or eat) and then use a BIPAP machine at night (lots of choice in interfaces) Quality ventilation would definitely give him more energy and perhaps help with his outlook. We have a wonderful Pulmonologist and Respiratiory Therapist that would with DMD/Becker patients all over the US if you would like the RT's emial information I would be happy to make email introductions. Non-Invasive ventilation really helps these guys maintain quality of life.
You sound like a great sister, I wish my son had siblings to help him carry his load :-)
Take Care,
Katherine

Hi Samantha,
Wow, that's a very tough topic. As you might know, some individuals have a difficult time accepting life as being different from their peers, then others do not. Many people ask me how I do it and always being happy, I guess I have been blessed. Unfortunatly he is over 1i8 and has his own right on what he wants. It's difficult to here, however have you taken him to meet others on a ventilators.Yes I had the same thoughts as your brother, although when pushed down to the last minute I choose life over death. Just tell him that you support his decision either way and will be their for him.. Hope that helps.

Glad you saw my Miller blog. I think 10 cents a cap could really add up. The address to mail them to is on the mda website, if for some reason you can't find it let me know I can get it to you. love your pictures

Hi Samantha:

I'm in Doylestown, PA and am the MomMom of an 8 year old boy with DMD.

Please go in and join the PA group so that maybe we can organize some get-to-gethers.
