About me:
I am a grandparent of a 9 year old boy just recently diagnosed with DMD. He had the symptoms all along but we attributed it to a tramatic brain injury suffered when he was an infant.
About my family:
Our grandson lives with his father (our son) and his step mother and step sister about 3.5 hours aways. My husband and I are retired so we are able to visit regularly and frequently attend medical appointments. I will be going to Ohio soon for the the initial muscle biopsy. We are anxious to know how we can help and what kind of accommodations in the home will be necessary as our grandson gets older.
Age(s) of child(ren)/individual(s) with Duchenne:
7-12
City:
Christiansburg
State:
Virginia

Not sure if you come to this site anymore as your post was from awhile ago. No children do not automatically qualify for Medicaid (not medicare) and SSI. Medicaid is income dependent and my son did not get ssi until he turned 18. Each state is slightly different and you almost have to be a detective to figure it all out. I have included a link which may help you.
