"No get the shot. You can't get Flu from the shot, expect for Flumist. You can get flu 2 week after the shot as it needs time to work. If, exposed in that time you can get sick. It is proven, safe.

Welcome to PPMD, and I hope your desire to be as independent as possible works out for you. Since our son is 11 and we live in Canada, I have no experience to help you out in that area, but I can wish you luck.
