I am a grandmother of a child with Duchenne. My grandson Nicholas was only four when he was diagnosed with MD. and he will be celebrating his 12th birthday Sept. 27th. I also have two other wonderful grandchildren a grandaughter 13, and a grandson who will be 10 at the end of Sept.
My husband and I were blessed with two daughters (twins) and spent our life enjoying every moment of their growing up years. My husband worked for the County of LA. and I was fortunate enough to stay home and be a full time mommy, PTA, Girl Scouts, baseball manager, taxi, making things for our boutiques, and sewing clothing for my girls were a few of things that kept me busy.... Those were wonderful years and so too are the times I'm spending with my grandchildren. They light up my life.
About my family:
I have twin daughters who I am very close to. My daughter, Kim Innabi, has three children, one with DMD. His name is Nicholas and he is almost 12. I am in awe of how they handle life and how well my grandson adjusts to each change and challenge he encounters. My grandkids are my joy in life!

I am new on the scene, and as a grandmother myself I am finding great strength in reading all about how families live with this in their lives. I hope you read my bio and it would be nice to get to know you further. You are lucky that you have a husband and all your family around you for support.
I wish you well. You have a beautiful family, as I do. Barbara
Welcome to the new PPMD site! I hope you enjoy this forum.
I have to tell you what I am sure you already know about your daughter, Kim. She is a beautiful person inside and out. I had the opportunity to get to know her better this past February in DC. She is great and doing all she can to help your grandson and all the children affected with dmd. I was so impressed with her persistance in advocating and just being a good person.
I love it when grandparents join in and give support. You can tell Kim must take after you in many ways. You have done a great job in raising your daughter!
