Just like one of the people who replied to your post my carrier test was done through the MDA clinic. I think my insurance may have paid for some but MDA never charged me. They may have put it through under some grant. They are a bit more specific about what they cover and don't cover these days. I would give your local MDA office a call to see if they can be of any help at least maybe they know of another lab that may be able to do it for less than the amount you were quoted from Athena. Who knows maybe the geneticist gets a kick back from Athena. Good Luck

Did your brother ever have a dna test? If he did and you already know his mutation finding out yours would be a much faster process. Athena labs is not the only lab that can do the test. Mine was done at the lab at Ohio State University Hospital. My two sisters were done somewhere else. I just sent them a copy of my son's dystrophin gene report and their doctors sent it out. I find it hard to believe that it would cost that much.
