My New Set of Wheels

Posted on July 15, 2008 at 10:11am 1 Comment

Ok, here is another poem I found. I know many of you out there have not faced fulltime use of a wheelchair yet or are making that transition now. There are also many of you who like my son and our family the wheelchair has been a part of your life for awhile now. Either way - this poem is a good one and sheds a little light on the benefits of wheels. I sometimes think how hard it must have been years ago before the invention of Power Wheelchairs. They do become our boys "car" and allow them to… Continue

To You, My Sisters (and Brothers)

I read the following poem a few years ago, and found it again a few days ago. I don't remember where I got it, but think it is worth sharing. It is long but a good one.

To You, My Sisters

By: Maureen K. Higgins

Many of you I have never even met face to face, but I've searched you out every day. I've looked for you on the Internet, on playgrounds and in grocery stores.

I've become an expert at identifying you. You are well worn. You are stronger than you… Continue

Hi Holly,
I was reading a msg you posted in one of the groups and looked at your profile. I'm not sure where gun barrel city is... I live in North Ft Worth...
Austin is almost 11 and has a power chair, he is now having big struggles even walking around the house. I'm getting ready to see if we can borrow a manual chair from MDA for a while. Anyway, I just wanted to say hi... I love the poem you posted and cried through it..

Our graduating class at CA started a yahoo group to discuss issues (good & bad) related to our dogs. We would love to have you join us. It has helped all of us through the transition of adding our dogs to our families. You can join here, if you would like: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/canineassistantfriends/ If/when you ask to join, tell Karen about Linden and that I invited you.

Hi Holly! I am so glad you joined up and found us! How are things going? Is Roland ready for camp? Him and Justin are going to be in the same cabin. I will see you guys in the morning when we send them off!

So I take it that you see Dr. I in Dallas??? Exactly how old is your son? I hope all is well with you today, I think it is important for us parents to try and connect, I feel so isolated at times, from other parents that is. With our children having DMD that keeps us busy enough, but sometimes causes us to lose touch with other things in this world we live in.
I look forward to hearing more from you.
