My name is Courtney..I am married my best friend, David..and I have two boys, Austin and Jackson, that have been diagnosed with duchenne.I also have a step daughter Payton. I am now a stay at home mom. I am an easy going person that enjoys everyday I have. Even the bad ones i still feel blessed to have woke up to them and be with my children. I enjoy being outside and anything I can do with my family.
About my family:
My husband David is amazing. He has taken on being an wonderful father to my boys along with the joys and the heartache of having children with duchenne. There is my step daughter Payton who is 12. She like most twelve year olds is more into friends than anything else. She makes me proud with how loving she is towards people and how smart she is. She always makes time to play with her little brothers for a little while most days. Then there is Austin, he is 7, and my strong willed child. He has a loving personality and will help do anything for anyone. He will also flatly refuse to do something if he doesnt want to do it right then, or if he thinks its boring. He is so smart and wants to know everything about everything. Always has questions to ask, and remembers everything! Jackson is the baby at 5. He loves to make himself and other people laugh. Never a dull moment when he is around. He loves everybody, and people are drawn to him. He tries hard to keep up with his big brother. He doesnt let anything slow him down!
Name(s) of child(ren)/individual(s) with Duchenne:
My 4-year old son Colin was diagnosed this past summer as well. I am so sorry that you are going through this, and with both boys. Our approach is to take it day by day, and not think too much about the future, except to hope, hope, hope.
Are the braces for night time or day time? Colin has splints for night (we call them his "boots", and they have been a huge help for him.
