Over the next few weeks I will post as a blog a history as best as I can remember about my two boys who have DMD. Billy was born 3/15/68 and Chris was born 12/28/73. We found out that they had muscular dystrophy when billy was 5 1/2 old, just after christopher was born.

- I have two boys with MD. They both live in the Good Shepherd Home in Allentown PA. Bill Jr. is 41 and Chris is 36. They both are on a vent.

Billy the oldest who is 41, has a straight back which was helpful for him. He had math dyslexia but other than that he is normal. He went in a wheelchair at 13. Chris is 36 and he is EMR. He also went into a wheelchair at 13. They grew up in Warminster and attended centennial schools. Bill was mainstreamed but chris was in special ed. My wife and I were divorced in 1981 and the boys continued to live with me in warminster. We had attendants to help take care of them once they were 18. All MD kids are eligible for state aid in PA after 18. Billy had mild pneumonia in 1987. My parents who lived with me passed away in 1998,99 and because I had no-one home during the day the boys decided they wanted to become residents of Good Shepherd home in Allentown PA. They moved there just before Christmas 1999. This was probably the best decision we ever made because they receive excellent care there. I visit them 3 - 4 times a week. Billy had pneumonia again in 2003 and spent 2 months in the hospital (Lehigh valley Hosp). Chris had a seizure (That lasted for 3 hours) in 2007. We thought along with the doctors that he would never recover but to our surprise he came out of his coma about 3 weeks later. He is fine now. Billy is starting to have heart problems and is being scheduled for an implanted heart defibrillator in about 3 weeks. There are 4 other MD kids living at Good Shepherd but most are Cerebral Palsy cases. If you have more questions I’ll be glad to try to answer them

I organized a huge fundraiser for PPMD last October at the Quakertown Airport called Drop for Duchenne and Fall Festival. This year the township has given me permission to incorporate a hot air balloon festival as well as an air show which would last 3 days. In order to do this I will need more help so if you think you can help that would be wonderful. We are trying to get a PA Faces together for next year so that all PA families can meet. It would be great to meet with you.
My husband, my second and not father of my two kids, just doesn't get involved with this, and I can't talk about my fears and worries to my daughter, so it's nice to be able to talk to someone older:)
Do you mind if I ask you if your boys have Duchenne and do you know what their mutations are?
It's very hopeful to us to see your boys living that long.
