If I Had My Child to Raise Over Again
By Diane Loomans

If I had my child to raise all over again,
I'd build self-esteem first, and the house later.
I'd finger-paint more, and finger point less.
I would do less correcting, and more connecting.
I'd take my eyes off my watch,
And watch with my eyes.
I would care to know less, and know to care more.
I'd take more hikes and fly more kites.
I'd stop playing serious, and seriously play.
I would run through more fields
And gaze at more stars.
I'd do more hugging and less tugging.
I'd see the oak tree in the acorn more often.
I would be firm less often, and affirm much more.
I'd model less about the love of power,
And more about the power of love

I think there are plenty of us that watch and listen, so if you ever need to chat, there's a few of us around.

Doesn't look like there has been a lot of activity on this page.  However, blessings to all the Dad's

Haven't logged in for awhile, but saw Dean's post after mine.  My son Justin also received a service dog this summer.  Life does get busy with an addition to the family.  Justin started taking his dog to school part time about two weeks ago.

Chris: It is great to get connected. I have 5 kids: Meredith (14), HENRY (11-DMD); Thomas (8); Jack (5); and Madeleine (2). Our Henry was diagnosed at 18 months. He is now a 6th grader. He got a power wheelchair 6 months ago and also has a service dog. Life is very busy and dynamic here in Tallahassee. I look forward to sharing stories and support.

I'm also still around, although I'm glad I received notice of the new activity via email because otherwise I might not have noticed.  My son Justin, DMD, is 12.  Lots going on for him physically, psychologically, and emotionally.

Still here, hope everyone is well.  We are good (two with DMD 16 and 13), plugging through winter here in Yukon Canada -37 today!

Cheers dads!

Steve

You bet - It will be good to get some convo going with other dads.  My son with DMD, Caleb, is 12.   I also have 3 others (7,9,&15).  I've been a single dad that has the kids 1/2 time and manage most of Caleb's care.

I'm still kicking around.
