Teresa,
How many tickets would you need? I have 3 extras. I'm not sure if we would be able to get more since they've released the block we had for public sale.

Laurie, I just found this group. You and I are friends on FB. Is it too late to find out about the basketball game on Feb 6?

Hey Everyone!!! I hope all have had a great holiday season. We've been doing some planning on our end for the boys, and families, to have some fun.

Please join us on Saturday, February 6th to see the Houston Rockets play the Philadelphia 76ers at the Toyota Center. Not only will you get to see a great game, but the entire PPMD group has been invited down to court level before the game to meet a few players. We must all be there and be ready to go to court level at 6 p.m. sharp. The game starts at 7:30. Tickets are just $10 each. Our reserved section also includes 6 wheelchair locations with 6 companion seats. If we need more, we can get more, but we need to know ASAP.

We need to let ticketing know exactly how many tickets we need, so don't wait. Give us a call or shoot us an email to let us know your plans. If you have any questions, you can always contact me or Rachel.

Here was my experience with changing insurance with my son's DMD diagnosis: We moved states and had to change from Blue Shield of CA to Blue Cross of Texas. Even though these two providers are the same insurance company, they would not simply transfer the plan to Texas or even offer me the same rate with the excuse of "different state regulations". Because of Karsten's diagnosis, the premium was raised almost 3 x the original amount. This was unaffordable so I went thru the Texas Insurance Health Pool and got basically the same coverage at a more affordable rate. Ironically the company that provides for the Texas Health Pool is Blue Cross of Texas.
I do know it is very important to get a letter of credible coverage and/or a pre-existing condition waiver from your current insurance company before that policy expires. It will be very difficult to get coverage for him without proof of prior coverage. You will need a letter of diagnosis from your son's doctor to go through the health pool.
I know that with personal insurance it will be an even higher premium, if there is any way for you to start a group policy, it would be much cheaper.
That is something you should investigate as well.
Here is the link to the Texas Insurance Health Pool, you can call them and ask tons of questions, I found them very helpful:

Good luck! This can be a very frustrating task!

I have a questions about insurance. My husband is soon to be laid off. Several years ago we ran our own business, but it was before my sons were diagnosed. We are seriously looking into reopening our business, but we remember that our personal insurance was not great. He will have three months severance and then we can be on Cobra for almost a year after that, so the need for personal insurance isn't immediate, but we want to see what our options are before we jump into our decision about starting our company. Does anyone run their own business and have personal insurance? How do they treat the preexisting condition? Do they not cover the boys at all? Do they just put a rider on them and not cover anything to do with the DMD? Anyone with lots of insurance knowledge out there - or other ways to get health care coverage? Thanks!!!

There is a respite program in Texas called MDCP(Medically Dependant Childrens Program). Its not an income based program. You have to get on the waiting list. When we got to the top of the list, it provides medicaid, and respite services and some home mods and adaptive aids and such

Hi MommaToo. I have applied for SSI for Austin and was denied due to my income. They told me that he could probably get medicaid. When I asked if we could get medicaid when we have insurance, they said well, probably not.

So, to answer your question, most of us make too much $$. Or already have insurance. I have applied for a couple of different services: DADS, and some others, I'll let you know once I find all of them again. Just so you know, there is help out there, but most of it you will not recieve until he is 18 yrs old, and not making his own income.

Sorry to tell you this, trust me, I know it sucks. It'skinda like we get punished for working..... No offense to anyone, but it seems like we qualify for nothing.

Another thing I can tell you..... Depending on where you live, try the St Jude's hospital. You will have to go through all of their Dr's and Specialists, so depending on how long you've had a diagnosis may help you decide if you want to do that. We've decided we didnt want to lose all the Dr's we already have.

I've only been in Texas for going on 5yrs, so, I dont know everything, but sine dealing w/DMD I have learned alot. Just hollar if you have questions or need to talk.
