@ Stephanie Fielder...I actually had a nurse practitioner say "well let's hope it's a girl" when I was pregnant and at my ob appt. It was very upsetting....Oh the nerve....But we do have a beautiful girl!

I need to vent about something that upset me but also made me mad. My sister just found out she's pregnant. I'm very excited for her, but our sister-in-law that we have on our husband's side (we married brothers) said...well hope you have a girl, so that we don't have to go through this again like we did with hayden (my son). Has anyone else ever had someone say that to you?

Hey everybody! I haven't checked the PPMD website in so long because we have just moved and have had no internet service for over a month. We are so excited about Dr. Pierre Fequire who is coming to Children's in B'ham. He is a pediatric neurologist who specializes in neuromuscular diseases. He focuses mainly on DMD, BMD, and SMA. He is coming sometime this month and will begin seeing patients shortly after. The MDA clinic at Children's is going to be so much better because of him. He takes a much more aggressive approach to treating and fighting this disease. He has been doing his fellowship under Dr. Wong in Cincinnati. He has trained under one of the best DMD neurologists. We met him in January when we took Beau to see Dr. Wong. We REALLY liked him. Such a nice man!! Pass the word along to everyone you know who lives in the southeast. We are scheduled to go back to Cinci in October, but may see Dr. Pierre here instead.

I am in Foley, about 20 min. from Gulf Shores. My son had his first appointment at the Childrens Hospital in Birmingham at the end of May. I must say that we had a great experience with the doctors and the MDA clinic! All of the doctors were very friendly/caring and knowledgable! Being newly diagnosed (February 9, 2009)I have been terrified and confused after leaving some of my sons doctors appointments, but after leaving the Childrens Hospital I feel a lot better about things. I hope you have the same kind of experience as we did!

I am in Montgomery, unfortunatly my son lives in El Paso with his Dad and is only here during the summer and when he is out of school. I have heard very good things about Dr. Leah Sanchez at Alabama Neurological Clinic Pc
2000 Normandie Dr., Montgomery, AL 36111 (334) 281-7280. The MDA Office here in town recommended them. Also try calling Dr. Joey Boiser 350 Taylor Rd., Montgomery, AL 36117 (334) 281-7280 he is a great Doctor. Are yall going to the Childrens Hospital in B'ham? If so, they are wonderful up there! Before my son moved to El Paso he lived at Ft. Benning, Ga. and we would have routine check ups in B'ham.
I hope some of the info I have given you helps, hint...never go to Baptist South if you can possibly avoid them! I recommend going to Baptist East on Taylor Road if you can, they are very patient and kind, Baptist South takes forever and most have nasty attitudes as if they could be doing something better than trying to help someone in need. I hate to talk like that but just a heads up for you. Good Luck! Welcome to the Montgomery Area!

Just moved to Alabama, we are stationed at Maxwell AFB and live in Prattville. We just got through a horrible experience at Baptist South where they new nothing about DMD. Where does everyone go for day to day or emergency service in Montgomery? We are being directed to Birmingham for DMD check-ups. The doctors in Colorado know some of the staff so we are expecting good service/care up there.

Hey...we live in Birmingham. We come through there all the time though...to see in-laws and grandparents in Enterprise.
