Our son Michael lost the battle he has been fighting for the 23 years since he was diagnosed with DMD. he died peacefully in his bed while watching TV and playing on his computer, he was having a good day and never mentioned any discomfort. He was always the optimist, he was telling the nurse earlier in the day what he was going to do when he could get out of his chair, he loved old cars and Speed channel was his favorite. I am grateful that we never let his disease slow us down from doing things or going places. He loved car shows. He lost his battle but we are still fighting for my younger son Matthew who is 23. We were blessed to have him as long as we did, he touched many people and made friends where ever we went. We have had many battles along the way, many that did not seem to help, but in the end I think they helped him to stay with us longer. God Bless all that are still fighting, we will win!

My son Ismael 23 went with the Lord on April 23rd 2010 after battling for 17 yrs DMD, he died peacefully surrounded by his loving family. He is survived by his parents, brother, sister ,nephew Gabriel also affected with DMD and a big extended family. We feel the same way because my son always loved the Lord above everything else and in his humble quiet way was an example to others and a living testimony that with the Lord's help you can soar and managed to be happy regardless the situation. He also loved car shows, movies, football, he also played power soccer for the Tampa Thunder, and liked Playstation 3 and be in the computer all night. We also have a long road ahead of us with our grandson, it's tough but "God have a purpose in all this" like my son Ismael would say. I am grieving for me and my family because we miss him dearly but now it's time for us to be happy for him knowing that he is in a better place were he is no longer suffering.
God bless you
I'm so sorry, George. Thanks for sharing a little bit of Michael with us. He sounds like a wonderful man to call a son.
Vilma, I'm so sorry to hear about Ismael. We are so blessed to have our boys who remind us to appreciate each moment, but there is never enough time with a loved one. My thoughts are with your family.

So very sorry to hear of your loss, I'm truly saddened. I pray you find peace and comfort. You are in my thoughts and prayers. We will win!

God Bless,
Mary
God Bless you all and may he continue to watch over Matthew as he continues his DMD Journey here with you.
So sad reading about your wonderful son's passing George. We are strangers, although in DMD we are not, and my heart goes out to you and your family. Sending blessings to Michael who is now free and prayers for peace to you. Everyday I ask God not to take anyone else who suffers from this dreaded disease. Tomorrow I will pray harder.
Tears and prayers. Sorry is not a big enough word.
I'm so sorry for your loss. It sounds like you did everything you could to give Michael a wonderful life. Prayers being sent your way.
Prayed harder today. Not sure if God is listening.

I too lost my son Timmy to Duchenne Md January 5th of this year he was 19 years old. As with your son he died in the morning due to heart complications in no pain and in total peace. I thank God that he was spared the pain and suffering of this disease that could have been a part of our lives. He accomplished so much in the time he was on this earth. He never complained or said why me and cared so much for all of the people around him. It was the simple things play a game, watch a movie always wanted to be around people. I was blessed to have been his mother. Timmy's three sisters and I will carry his legacy forever the rest of the time that we are here. He loved the Phillies and the Flyers he could not play a sport but, in spite of his disease in his mind he was the best athlete ever. He is in heaven walking and running on the streets of gold. God bless you and your family
I am so sorry for your loss. It is nice to hear your son was so happy and so busy doing the things he loved! We will someday win this battle because we are all such a strong army of fighters against DMD both on earth and in heaven! God bless you and your family!
