Saw the press release from yesterday - link.

This part is particularly awesome.  A terrific use of funds.  More researchers = more research.  We need that.  I assume Weisman is the name of the donor - thank you, whoever you are!

Mr. Dobes is the recipient of the first Weisman Fellowship from PPMD. This $50,000 grant is awarded to a research student that has chosen Duchenne-specific science as their chosen path of study. Mr. Dobes is using micropallet arrays to help identify healthy cells for stem cell research, as well as developing a process to keep these cells alive for future research. Inspired by one of his best friends who lives with Duchenne, Mr. Dobes decided to focus his doctoral degree on analytical chemistry and applied for, and won, the Weisman Fellowship.

Thanks for sharing this. The Weisman Fellowship is a Fellowship started by Larry and Mary Lou Weisman. Mary Lou Weisman wrote the book Instensive Care about their son Pete who passed away from Duchenne. Instensive Care was made into a movie, starting Liza Minelli.
Thanks for the info, Christine. I can't find the movie anywhere (looks like it was a made for TV movie, and aired in 1985). Here's a link to a nice article about the Weisman's and the movie from People magazine.
