In regards to leg fractures I have the emergency info
Card and my 11 year old fell last night and fractured his leg
I take him to ER they cast him with a full leg cast. I brought up the question
Of internal fixation as opposed to the cast and the Ortho said he didnt
Feel it was right in this situation. We have a follow up should I request a second opinion?
He was walking well before and I am worried that this will be harmful.
The ortho knew about DMD but I am scared As a military Dr he may not
Be as forward thinking as needed in this case.
First major bone we have damaged ( I'm a bit of a wreck)
Any advice is greatly appreciated

Lynn, I can imagine you are frightened. Where is the fracture? Femur (upper leg) or tibia/fibula (lower part of the leg). What type of cast? Sorry for all the questions. It might be worth seeking a second opinion" with an ortho familiar with DMD.
Once he is out of pain and whatever intervention is decided, it will be important to have him weight bear on the healthy leg in order to maintain strength and balance.
Is he doing ok otherwise?
Who is his DMD doctor? Lynn
" please send me an email which might make things a bit easier in term of connecting you to people who are able to provide additional guidance.
Take care Lynn. You are in my thoughts. Email:
