Hi everyone,
Since Wyatt started steroids in January he has been extremely active. Obviously doing more than he was doing pre-steroids. Lately while stretching him I have noticed that his muscles are extremely hard. I can still stretch him like normal but they feel like rocks. His calves and his thighs. Is there something I can do for him? He has also been waking up at night, saying "it hurts, it hurts" I am assuming he means his legs. I have been giving his motrin prior to bed trying to alleviate some pain he has. I just wish there was something else I could do. Any ideas are appreciated.

Our son had a big increase in activity since starting steroids, too (just over a year ago, now). Since that time, his muscles have definitely bulked up, it seems, and sometimes they are hard as rocks like you said. Especially after he's been really active. No complaints of muscle or leg pain though ... But w/ regard to the hard muscles, we will do extended soaks in a nice hot tub, and extended stretching. It seems to really help, and the next day he is back to his normal self. We had a very active Memorial Day (for us!), at the end of which he said his legs "kind of hurt" ... a nice long soak in a very warm tub, followed by a longer-than-usual stretching session, and yesterday he was a-ok. Starting the steroids is a blessing, getting our kids closer to "normal" little-guy activities, and at the same time sometimes I feel like it is a curse and you can't stop them from being so active!!! Ah, the trials ... Good luck.
When Joshua gets to this state he too sits in a hot tub for a while but we have him lay on a spa mat. He lays down on it and afterward his legs are gel soft. It works really well. He'll stay on it for approx. 1/2 - 3/4 of an hour. He comes out really relaxed!!!
The spa mat we have is also called a hydromassager. It's made by Conair. It has suctions on the bottom and a hose that goes into the mat and blows the air into the mat and acts like hot tub pressure does. It comes with a blow-up pillow as well. It is an inexpensive hot tub!!! Joshua sometimes falls asleep... so it's a good idea not to leave them alone when they first start. :)
