Michele,
I believe your question is in regards to a child with Duchenne muscular dystrophy.  If that is true, as a child becomes weaker and struggles to walk, balance is impaired and falling becomes more frequent.   The use of a wheelchair, scooter or other mobility aid may help preserve a child's strength and endurance.  Unfortunately, over time, a child with Duchenne will fall more regularly, lose the ability to walk and eventually rely on a wheelchair for mobility.
