Hi Archana, I would check with your son's doctor.
I'm a almost 20 yr old girl w/ duchenne. I always make sure to check with my doctors before taking anything. I don't really know about fish oil, but I guess it supposed to be really good for you.
We don't use the caps, but the Barlean's Kids DHA liquid.
We use the Barlean's Kids DHA fruit flavored liquid as well. It has been amazing for Kelvin and has helped him with anger issues. Michelle
Ewan has been taking 1000mg of Omega-3 every day for two years. He just chews the caps. I don't know that it's done wonders or anything, but it's a good overall supplement that all of us could benefit from. I don't think you have to worry about giving it to your son. Ewan is over my shoulder right now telling me that the fishy taste is horrible. Little trooper that he is, though, he never complains.
I am curious to the benefits to this. I don't recall reading about it before. Is it for anger, etc? Alex definitely has issues and I wonder is it just him or the meds its on. Thanks. Kim
Thank you all,I really appreciate your suggestions.I will start on it soon.I notified my dr too.
If you research ADD and ADHD, etc. and check on how it has been used in studies (check DHA/EPA Omega 3, 6 and 9 and the studies), it is amazing how it benefits children, as many kids don't have enough naturally. I tried it and yikes, like in a week or so, it was amazing how it helped Kelvin. I give 1 teaspoon of the Barleans, says 1/2 teaspoon, but I give 1. Another mother on here tried it and it helped her son as well. There are studies about how it has helped concentration, brain development, anger, etc. I know most of our children don't have ADD or ADHD, but, they do get some issues. I don't think it could hurt, so it is worth a shot. I don't think it really matters what brand, but Barleans is liquid, easily absorbed and fruit flavored, so that is what I use. Michelle

Hi Everyone,

Not sure of Fish Oil use for ADD and ADHD. However there has been supportive but not conclusive research that shows that the consumption of EPA and DHA omega-3 fatty acids may reduce the risks of coronary heart disease. However, before starting any supplement I would check with your child's doctor to determine the proper dosage. I would also check with the doctor if your child is on an ace inhibitor or a beta blocker, has these are heart medications used to prevent heart problems.
