Facebook Fundraising Opportunity

Intel is running a contest to give away $50,000 in co-branded advertising to a non-profit. The top 32 vote-getters will compete for the prize. If you have a Facebook account, go to this app http://apps.facebook.com/voteforacause/
You can vote once a day. PPMD is currently #30 and could rise pretty quickly if everyone gets on board and votes. Also, please send the link to all of your Facebook friends and encourage them to vote daily as well. It costs them nothing other than ten seconds of their time.

That's excellent. PPMD is currently at #12. I think we can push for the top spot at the rate we're going, but we need everyone on board. 2,000 votes a day would absolutely clinch it.

For anyone who has read this post and thought "yeh, I'll vote .... later" a bit of an update -
PPMD are sitting at #9... for this round. Voting closes in 3 days, and then the next round begins.... each round from here on in lasts for 3 days ONLY.
you can vote once per day. (so you now have 3 votes left in this round)....
Currently, a girl doing a run for MS, The Association of Congenital Diaphragmatic Hernia Research. a charity providing educational support to girls in India, The Kids need to read foundation, Polycystic Kidney Disease, The Freegirl Foundation, Big Cat Rescue and the Chiari Centre Foundation are all ahead of PPMD....
The next voting round is cut to the top 16, so PPMD will be in that one, all going well, however within 3 days it will be cut to the final 8, and without more support this where PPMD will be "cut".
If you want an easy way to try and help PPMD gain access to free advertising and you have a facebook account, why not vote and show the world how passionate we all are about raising awareness and finding a cure for Duchnne?
For years we have been organising fund raisers and awareness campaigns, surely the total net effect of all this effort is not 127 votes on a facebook competition?

Julie, 8 of those votes are from this house. Four people with accounts and we all voted the last two days. We really need a huge push. The average Facebooker has 120 friends. We need to urge all of our contacts to vote as well. We can do this. We NEED to do this. Not only will it help PPMD name recognition and funding, but it will also give our community a huge psychological boost to know that we've come together and made an impact on the future course of our sons' health.

We'd like to ask for your vote for Parent Project Muscular Dystrophy. This group became very important to us after our younger son was diagnosed with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy in 2007.
Duchenne MD is a fatal degenerative muscle condition. It almost exclusively affects boys, about 1 in 3500 births. This makes it the most common fatal childhood genetic disorder. Boys typically lose their ability to walk by the mid-teens, and most succumb to the disease by their late 20's. There is no treatment available to stop the progression, but there is a lot of promising research.
There's a link below to the promotion. Just click on it, and enter "muscular dystrophy" in the search box. Parent Project MD will come up as one of the choices. You can vote once a day.
It costs nothing to participate and takes only a couple of minutes. Once you vote, the promotion will appear on your Wall. If you could make a comment underneath it saying you voted for Parent Project Muscular Dystrophy, maybe it'll help spread the word.

I do not have a facebook account but my two older children do. Is tomorrow too late to contact them regarding this? Maybe I can use your note & change it around a bit and post it on their account if it is not too late.

The first voting round closes on the 4th, but there are 4 more voting rounds after that, so it is definitely not too late to contact your children :)
Some positions are only 2 or 3 votes behind each other, so 2 more people voting every day could make a world of difference in the coming rounds .....

Right now we're in 5th. I posted a note as well as comments when I vote and have had some response from my facebook friends.
If anyone else wants to be friends I am there under Susan Rathfelder, I would welcome being friends with anyone here. :)

Less than 100 votes away from the #3 spot. Just remember that the voting starts all over again on Sept 5th, so we have a fresh start and have to keep the momentum going. I am a big believer in peaking at the right time, so we need to be ready to make a huge surge in the next couple of weeks. We're gonna do this, guys. We're gonna make a difference to this organization one vote at a time. This is for our boys.
Keith, I haven't seen mention of this contest on the "Uncancel" group. Any luck with them? If we can promote this on that group in about one week, I think we can sail through to the final round.
