My son has alway's had excessive placque on his teeth, the dentist recenlty told me he has the start of gingviitis at age 9 and will probably be referring me to a peradonist the next time if the gums still looked bad. I have 3 sons and the other 2 have not had the dental issues my son with DMD has had. We brush 2 times a day but not long after he brushes there seems to be placque on his teeth at the gum line. I was given flouride paste to put on his teeth at night, I'm hoping this works and he won't have gum problems. Just wondering if any one else has had to deal with bad teeth or gums with their DMD child.

I have two sons with DMD 23 and 19, my 19 always seems to have more plague, there are mouthwashes that can help with this, I have gingvitis myself, I have to go to the dentist about 3 to 4 times a year to get a cleaning, I use a Sonicare toothbrush twice a day and floss, but ACT or Crest Pro Health is a good mouthwash to use because it does not contain alcohol, alcohol can cause the mouth to dry out more, but Crest Pro Health says it helps with gingivitis, this is what our dentist has recommended for me and my sons, you might ask your dentist. Hope this helps.
Susan, thanks for the info, I to have the gingvitis I go for the deep cleaning also. We do use the ACT. I wondered if the steroids might cause issues with the gums. Our dentist gave me a script for flouride gel, she said that would help fight the bacteria, we will see how it goes. I told him from now on he needs to brush after every thing he eats.
Hi Kathy,
Our son Ben who has DMD has had alot of dental issues, even though he is only 4years old. He has already had to have dental surgery which took about 4hours to complete back in June. Just this past Monday, he had to go back in and have another tooth filled because it had a cavity. I also brush his teeth twice a day, floss and use flouride mouth rinse at night. Our two daughters have not had dental issues like this either. Not sure if it is DMD related.
Just thought that I would let you know that we are also dealing with dental issues with our DMD son.
