I've been tossing around the idea of compiling a cookbook/inspirational DMD stories book with the $ raised being donated to PPMD.  Has anyone done that, or attempted to do that.  Any ideas or suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks Melissa, Wyatt's Mommy

Hi !

My friend, Nancy & I have just started plans for a cookbook ' Recipes for Our Sons' where we are looking to raise money for PPMD.  Nancy's young nephew was recently diagnosed with Duchenne. We were trying to come up with the best ways to solicit recipes and market the cookbook and thought to look to PPMD members and, lo and behold, it looks like you and others have had the same idea.  Did you publish a book?  If not, how far did you get?  Would it make sense to join forces?  I see from a note below that Dee Bird (I don't know her) also has a book.  Before we go to far, we want to be sure that we can be successful in our effort.  We are in NJ, and her nephew is in KY so we have at least 2 target states !

Please let me know.

Thanks !  Rosanne

I'm trying to email you Rosanne with my number.  i might have to post it here!

If you all can go for it then do. I didn't complete it because Kim at PPMD told me to wait on it so  i put it on a back burner. But if you all want to go with it...then do.  But I do have some suggestions if your willing to listen to it   lol

safe hugz, Dee

352 331 9971  if you all like to call and discuss it or we ca do the SKYPE conference call and talk about it. make sure you have the latest version (5.0+) with a camera and mic too.  my skype name is dee.bird  if you want to add me.

I didn't get very far either.  I just was tossing around the idea.  If you do end up doing this, let me know I would be happy to contribute something.

Melissa

If you do this, please be careful with the title you use....as Girls has DMD and you don't want to offend them if you exclude them.  I understand there are more boys with it ...as it usually affects boys, but there is lot of history of girls with DMD and by using "for our son's" will exclude the girls affected with DMD.   To me, it just won't be fair or right.  Just my opinion.

Just a suggestions, Dee

the only reason why I didn't continue it last year was because Kim at PPMD told me to wait on it so I put it on the back burner.   Otherwise I might had already had it done.   I think it is a great idea and there should be like a committee of parents on it.  Not just one or two boys but for all the boys.   Nancy and Rose had started on theirs already and I think we should "contribute" to it however, as I said before, don't exclude girls with DMD.   I gave them alot of ideas and suggestions to help make this a big seller not only in the DMD /MD community but also in our rural community as part of our Awareness as well.

Use a website to sell it.

Have a blog about it.

Market also in big major book stores (get isbn#)

Use Ebay and Amazon.com

Limit to 5 recipes per family  (maybe 1 recipe per category?),  but those who contribute recipes must also help sell the cookbooks

My cookbook is a Vegetarian cookbook and has alot more recipes than what Nancy and Rose are planning.

The mom's who are putting a cookbook together for PPMD are still looking for recipes for the cookbook. There is a limit of 5 recipes per family.  Please forward your recipes today so that you don't forget.   Thank you!

Dead line for Recipes is: January 30, 2011.

Please include with your recipes submission:

Category recipe belongs to
Name of your child, age
Your name, email and phone number

Thank you for your contributions.

Please also know if you plan to contribute recipes that you will commit to help sell a minimum of 5 cookbooks when they are available.
