Hello All,

Is there anyone out there struggling with finding assisted living for themselves or a young adult with DMD.  I have heard of Congregate Living Facilities, which provide nursing care, however, only have 12 people or less, and can be more like a home than the traditional Skilled Nursing Facilities. The advantage is they can be like a home setting/dorm, with activities, outings etc, that can meet the social/emotional needs of young adults.

I am in the Los Angeles area, and the social worker for the Center for Duchene Muscular Dystrophy at UCLA. I was contacted by someone in the community who is looking for options for her 25 year old son.  I thought it would be a good idea to get a discussion going and maybe even connect so parents and professionals can brain storm on options out there.

Looking forward to hearing and learning,

Hillary Zebberman, LCSW
