Julie
List updated 6/24.
This is a great update Keith! I will be posting on the main site as well.

*****If anyone is interested in how to reach out to your members of Congress visit www.parentprojectmd.org/2008actnow
All,

One more should be sign on coming in from California. I plan to make calls next week to others.

My sister's rep finally signed or says he will be signing.

I hand delivered a letter to DC from her and met with a staff member back in February. My sister and I both stayed in touch via e-mail with the DC office all the way thru the end of April. I talked a few times on the phone to the DC office. There were a few changes in the staffing.

Finally, I called the local office the other day and wanted to know when the Rep would have a "town meeting" for people to hear him. Long story short I was told where the meeting would be held and we most likely would get a minute or two to speak to him. Also, he really would prefer to hear from my sister. Well, I told the staff person my sister and I would be there. I also gave them my sister's contact phone number. I said my sister and I have never had such a problem before with this office to get a response. (It is his first time in office and the other member always supported DMD once it was brought to their attention.)

Short part, his staff person called to tell my sister he will be signing on....so I will be checking the list.

Hopefully, persistence has paid off. I tried a new way, letting him know we would be visible and asking why no support!

We need more support!

Good luck everyone!

Julie
I recived an email from Vern Ehlers (MI) today and he told me he is planning on cosponsoring. That's one more to the list...
All,

We are gaining support! Let's just keeping pushing.

All the best!

Julie
Since the last update, 16 added in the House and 1 in the Senate. We now have a quarter of each house of Congress cosponsoring the bill.
This is great. Now we need more names.

Spread the word and keep the emails flowing to DC.
This is great news and we really need to look at the names of those who have not signed on and call to see what we can do to get their support.

I know my mother in-law lives in Las Vegas said she would contact Harry Reids office. He signed the MD Care act in 2001, so he needs to show his continued support. She said she would be calling and I will follow up to check in with her. If you are in Las Vegas, start calling the local offices and request support. If enough calls come and and polite persistence will pay off.

Any office who supported the bill originally in 2001 just needs to hear from their constituents to let them know we still need their support! See if your person is one of the originals to sign on, thank them and let them know you still need their continued support.

Check your person's web page in congress and see how some of the things they support may relate to the support of the MD Care re-authorization act. You can always check in with Ryan and run things by him to see what may work.

Write your letters, make your calls, we need this passed!

Good luck everyone!

Just wanted to say, we have more names and more support. We need to keep calling and letting them know we are not going away. Try to schedule a meeting at your local office or go to the Town hall meeting if they have one.

Just be nice and persistent. They will see you as an active individual. This means an active voter which are the ones they sit up and pay attention when they call. PPMD has a lot of information on their website so you can see if they have supported the original care act.

Dont be discouraged, your call, your persistence may be the one that pushes their support. We as a community can and will do this.

All the best!

Julie - what's Nancy Pelosi's position on this bill? She's doing a book signing nearby tomorrow night. I'll go talk to her if there's a possibility she'd sign on.
Keith,

Go talk to her and let me know if she needs Californian's to call in or just her district. I will push and get what I can on this side. I have friends who work and live in SF. I have been pushing friends who live in San Mateo to get Jackie Speiers to sign and I will push anyone there is a chance to crack the door open. Just let us know the support you need Keith. I have heard you advocate very well.

Check the report card on her...I believe she has signed in the past, not sure. I am in a hurry right now.

I did meet in her office back in 2006 I believe with my sister in-law (she is in district) and I believe she may have supported a "Dear Colleague" letter that time. Her L.A. at the time was older and had a son who had a form of MD, limp girdle I believe.

Just let us know what we can do on this side and what she needs to get her support!

Good luck!

Julie

If you have questions for me, my two best e-mails are marcnjulz@aol.com and work jac8@pge.com During the day, work is my best to reach me.

We just need to push hard on this like we do to maintain our children's health. Congress is the one way to raise big dollars and support. Time is past and needed now!
