Joshua is having the same problem. He doesn't have a huge problem going to sleep, but staying asleep is another thing. Does your son have nightmares, kick, yell, and call you in the middle of the night too? We started Joshua on Serenol and it stopped almost immediately. His legs stopped aching and he was actually in a good mood in the morning. He even started reminding us if we forgot.

Yes...
sometimes its 4 am && I still can't sleep
Yes, having nightmares, talking in his sleep. What is Serenol ? And how old is your son ?
Serenol is an herbal supplement. Joshua is 5. I just found out though that they don't make Serenol anymore and have substituted it with some other name. It doesn't have the same ingredients though. We were able to talk to our naturopathic clinic and they told us to try 'Calms 4 Kids'. It's made by Hyland's. They have a website... www.hylands.com. On the back of the box it tells you which herb and what herb does.

Aconitum Nap. 6X HPUS for physical & mental restlessness
Calc. Phos. 12X HPUS for pains in joints in bones, peevishness
Chamomilla 6X HPUS for irritability, restlessness, sleeplessness
Cina 6X HPUS for nightmares, irritabilityof temper
Lycopodium 6X HPUS for lack of focus, extreme sensitivity
Nat. Mur. 6X HPUS for irritability, crying, oversensitivity
Pulsatilla 6X HPUS for causeless crying, sleeplessness from travel
Sulphur 6X HPUS for irritability, peevishness

You can give it throughout the day, but we only give it at night. The tablets taste good and disolve beneath the tounge.

Thanks - I may try that. I have always used their teething tablets and colic tablets, but not since I had infants at home !
i am new to this but it cought my eye. my son is 4 we found out 2 weeks ago that he has duchenne and we found out that duchenne will cause them to be restless at night because they have trouble getting comfortable, i was told to look for a better bed, they also said there might have to be mood stableizers to help regulat him for patterns for sleep. not sure if that helps that is just what i was told. best of luck the george family
My son has always had an issue with falling asleep and then staying asleep then 6 months ago a doctor told me about melatonin its a natural supplement your body makes it and some people don't make enough. I give my son two 3mg. tablets before bedtime and within 30 minutes he is out and usually only wakes if he needs to use the bathroom or be moved it is great. I wish I had known about it a long time ago he is 12 now and has never used prednisone. Hope that helps..
I put Kelvin on the couch next to me, have his legs on my lap to start the massaging and stretching, he wears headphones and listens to music (not very loud). I start massaging, it works every time, and then I stretch, while he is sleeping. Per Dr. Wong, I stretch his wrists as well. Of course, then I have to carry him to bed and he is 44 pounds, so, well, it isn't great on my back, but gets him to sleep, easily and who wouldn't. I'd love to have my legs massaged every night, while listening to music! and relaxing! Michelle
Vicki,
Don't assume that because your son has DMD he will have sleep problems. My son is 6.5, wears night splints and is on Deflazacourt (an alternative steroid to prednisone) and he has no sleep problems. All the issues you read about on this board are real, but don't necessarily occur in every boy. That is one of the frustrating (among many) things about DMD, each boy is different and progresses differently.
