Who considers themselves to be an expert in letter writing?

I approached Will from PPMD with this idea and he said if we think it would work coming from parents, families and friends of DMD/BMD boys we should go for it.

So here is my idea:

We get someone to write a very informative but short and to the point letter about DMD/BMD, Pat and PPMD and why Oprah needs to do a show on this. Once the letter is written it gets posted on the board for everyone to copy and paste it into their emails.

Here's the catcher! We all start to send these letters from all over the world and we send one every hour on the hour till someone gets a positive reply!

Is there anyone willing to give the letter a shot? I could write it but I tend to be too wordy as you can see from this post:)

I just got this email from Will and thought I would add this onto this post:

"In my opinion, it would be a stronger statement to start off with a joint letter written by a handful of parents and grandparents, and then follow up individually…but I think it may be stronger if the initial outreach comes from families rather than someone at PPMD, since we’ve already reached out to the show so many times."

Outstanding work. For the conveninence of all, I will incorporate the comments into a master version that each person can then customize to their own preferences and situation. I should be able to get that done this weekend, probably late Sunday. There's of course no reason why someone couldn't take what we already have up, change it however they want and then get it going, wtth the rest of us following in sort of a Rolling Thunder approach.
Paul,
Do we have a date in mind yet to send the letters?

Anytime you want. You can take what we've posted, cut and paste it to suit your self and get them out, or you can wait until I post what will be my definitive version. After that its anytime and everytime until it works or we all give up.

Looks like we are closer to getting these letters/e-mails out. I was wondering...shouldn't we coordinate our efforts and start together with one celeb at a time? Would, for example, the Oprah people take a closer look if several messages came from a variety of parents and loved ones during the same timeframe, like a month or so? Then, together we move on to the next celeb on the list we have coordinated?

And, so far it appears there are a few parents at this thread, shouldn't we ask our friends from PPMD to send them as well? How about extending that to include relatives and supporters outside this website?

I don't know if all/any of this is a good idea but wanted to bring it up just in case it might make more impact on the results. Then it might go badly, perhaps sending too many at the same time might turn them away?

what do you all think? should we coordinate our efforts or just do it?
either way - let's roll

I also copied down a couple of local sports players...

Only problem with current sports players is that they can only help the charity of their sport or their own personal charity(s). For example, the NFL helps with United Way as one of their charities, so the players can help United Way. Only way we can get an athlete to support another cause, like PPMD, is to get one that is retired.

Maybe, getting our message into the hands of the sports agents is an idea as well. The agent can then try and pursuade his new young rookie to start a charity that benefits PPMD. It would be that players personal charity.

Scott Boras is a big time agent in Baseball...Leigh Steinberg (was) and Tom Condon (is) in Football....
Just got onto this topic today --have been busy with Lukey's Grandpa and his brain hemorrhage which is just about under control with no ill effects. For all it's worth I also think we should all start at once to overwhelm one at a time for a while and then just keep going. I can't tell you how many letters I have written to celebrities-- 20 at a time via snail mail with no results but I and family and friends will be sitting for hours a day sending e-mails,snails and calls. I went through these six pages very fast with enthusiasm which I needed today after a "down time" thinking of our little Lukey. I may have missed it but did someone say it should be strongly said that Jerry Lewis and Labor Day does VERY LITTLE for Duchenne and RESEARCH for Duchenne? I pass out my cards with our First Giving Website to everyone I talk to as I have lost all pride re DMD and not only do they not know Duchenne but they all think all MD is the same and Jerry takes care of it. We are on board--I can't tell you what I have suggested to my family that I would do to get attention from T.V, newspapers etc. They vetoed them all but who knows. Lukey's Grandma
Hello Everyone
I have just discovered this entry and think that this is a great idea. I will certainly participate and do all I can to help. We live in Canada and I know that there are a number of members outside the US using PPMD so make sure the letter is worded in such a way to include us all. Here in Canada we have a popular Celebrities and Athletes that may not be on some of your lists. I believe that people such as Wayne Gretzky, Don Cherry and others along with popular CBC/CTV talk shows would read our letters and join our fight.
Do Don's suits come as part of the deal? ;-)
